Darwin and the 'Top End' is like that distant cousin you never get to see but when you finally meet up, you know it'll be memorable. Historically, Darwin was a multicultural melting pot for Asian trading but it has transformed itself, firstly after WWII with the Japanese harbour bombings and again after Cyclone Tracy. It's now a thriving yet relaxed tropical city giving its city sisters a run for their money. There are plenty of outback adventures not far from town that will have you marvelling at the natural beauty, but be warned of the long toothed salties that are ever present. You are sure to meet a few colourful characters along the way too. The thermometer doesn't move much below 30 degrees all year round and with two seasons (wet and dry), you can guarantee the party starts when the rains stops. We should meet up more often!
