I may be a little scared of real bunnies (I know I know it is silly) but these FLATOUT bunnies have me smitten! It was joy to unpack them and load them up to the store today. They are so cute with their oh-so-soft little tails.

They are designed by the clever ladies of the famous FLATOUT bears and are a fantastic addition to their range. We are stocking all the three gorgeous colours they come in – pink, white and blue.

Soft, cuddly and flat, the FLATOUT bunny is made of 100% pure Australian sheepskin. FLATOUT bunnies make the perfect baby gift and are a unique product used as a baby’s toy and comforter. Great for young and old, they are very cute and cuddly!

Jill Main merino goodies to keep you warm!

I know I should not be thankful for the warmer weather to be behind us in Australia but I am not a massive fan of the heat and this summer felt exceptionally long. I am sure my friends and family in the northern hemisphere would have something else to say about this though!

I am a big fan of Autumn and Winter fashion, there is so many opportunities for accessories with an outfit such as gloves, scarves and not nearly enough hat wearing in Australia for my liking except for the humble beanie. I wore funky winter hats all the time when I lived in the UK and this is something that I may try again for this winter.

I have recently added quite a few new goodies from Jill Main to our range to keep you nice and toasty in these cooler months. Hope everybody is having an awesome summer down here in the southern hemisphere and our friends in the north are surviving winter! With the summer holidays over that means back to school after a long break and based on my personal facebook feed a lot of first time kids going to school or kindergarten. I am yet to have my little ladies trot off to school but my Little Miss 3 year old is starting to learn the alphabet and to count.

The Ozzilla range is perfect for giving an Australian slant to learning your ABC’s and counting. I love this range and it’s bright basic graphics. The colours are gender neutral and would look great in any playroom, bedroom or classroom for that matter. Aussie icons are highlighted per letter and very easily recognisable for a child. I absolutely adore receiving a handwritten letter but I have to be honest unfortunately they are very few and far between in this modern age. I also love writing letters, notes and cards, to me they show that little extra care and appreciation. Little Circus Design by Madeleine Stamer

I have had the amazing designs by the very talented Madeleine Stamer from Little Circus Designs in store for a little while now, they are gorgeous! Every time they pop up, sell or I see them in the store they make me smile. Madeleine Stamer’s love of birds really does come across in her designs, they are modern with a splash of colour and will look great in any space. I have a selection of prints and tea towels which feature gorgeous Australian birds.

The gorgeous vibrant prints are dedicated to some of Australia’s favourite squawking birds. The prints are lovingly reproduced from original hand painted wood block paintings. The giclee prints are professionally printed on beautiful 100% cotton rag art paper using quality archival inks and are hand signed by Madeleine Stamer.

I am hard pressed to highlight a favourite print but I do think The Rainbow Lorikeet with Tear Print is visually spectacular.

326 describe themselves as “connoisseurs of culture. Inquisitive, engaging, and sometimes stimulating” and I totally agree!

326 is a New Zealand Design Collective from Auckland and I am now very excited to have select designs from their range on sale at www.antipodeanlove.com.au.

I am a big fan of typography and think that it is so important to get it right. Natasha Vermuelen for 326 has done just that in her design Ka Pai Print. This print is right in so many ways, it is a clear edgy typographic print and will bring a little Te Reo in to your space. When I was sourcing products and setting up www.antipodeanlove.com.au Poss and Wom was at the top of my list. I love the gorgeous muted tones and gender neutral images. Poss and Wom ticked all my boxes as it is very Australian with its two cute characters Poss and Wom and not the least bit tacky.

This unique and quirky brand is designed and made by the very talented Helen in Buderim, Queensland. All of the products are made with love and will be sure to put a smile on the faces of young and old alike.

We stock a number of products from the Poss and Wom range. The Poss and Wom Fine Art Prints are created using the gicleé process – vibrant pigment ink onto museum quality archival paper. They come ready to mount and frame which makes them the perfect gift or souvenir. I would be very hard pressed to pick a favourite print but I really do love the Read with Me print. I love that it encourages reading and how cheeky little Poss is looking up at Wom.

The decals, well don’t even get me started! The decals are absolutely divine and a fantastic way to jazz up a tired wall. Anzac Day

Today is such a special day on the Australian and New Zealand calendar. It is a day for reflection, to remember and to honour the amazing men and women that have made our countries as they are today.

I went to Anzac Cove in Gallipoli many years ago and it really was a moving experience. To stand on that hallowed ground where so many lost there lives and to see and imagine what they would have felt will stay with me forever. I can only imagine what it would actually be like at the Anzac Day service. I have read in the last few days that there is talk of a ballot being run for the Anzac Day service in Gallipoli as it has become so popular.

I have many special memories of Anzac Day in Australia at the Shrine in Canberra and at the Essendon v Collingwood AFL Anzac Day matches.

This is definitely not just another public holiday, it is a day that deserves reflection and thanks for everything our past and present diggers have done and are doing for our amazing countries.

Lest we forget.

Things have been a little quiet on the blog and site as of late as I have been very busy! We welcomed a new member to the Antipodean Love team on Monday the 5th of March, another gorgeous daughter! We are very blessed with our new bundle of joy and have been receiving cards and gifts from our very generous family and friends.

Our new addition has got me thinking about what items we have in stock for babies and little people on the site. Frustration in buying special gifts for friends that were having babies overseas was one of the ideas that started me thinking about setting up Antipodean Love. I really wanted to be able to buy handmade gifts that were a reflection of this amazing part of the world and also made an amazing gift.

Kiwi Softies (Dinkybits) now in stock!

I was very excited to recently receive my first order of cute little Kiwi Softies. These little creatures are made by the very talented Sharon of Dinkybits from Titirangi in New Zealand.

Sharon started out selling a mixture of handmade items at markets and every time she would completely sell out of her kiwi softies stock. Thankfully Sharon turned her focus to making the kiwi softies and the rest is history.

Initially the kiwis were made out of original retro fabrics and woollen blankets but due to popular demand and product refinement they are all now exclusively made out of selected Derek Corporation tea towels.

The shape and design is unique to Dinkybits. The design is clean and very much characterises the kiwi in a strong and abstract way without being gimmicky at all. Which is what Antipodean Love is all about!

These kiwi softies look great in a group but are also very impressive displayed on their own. They sit upright by themselves so they are very easy to display. They stand at approximately 18cm tall.

These kiwi softies would make a fantastic gift for a friend or loved one overseas, for a baby shower, or modern homewares. They have a real personality and look fabulous.

I uploaded some awesome products to the store from Lumbi over the weekend. All the Lumbi products are designed, printed and made in Yarraville, Melbourne.

I love the Lumbi designs, the are the perfect example of how souvenirs and local gifts do not need to be tacky, they are far from it!

The cushions would look fantastic in any interior space. The Lucky Melbourne Tram Cushion is quite modern but due to its neutral tones is not too loud or overbearing. It looks great matched with the Old Melbourne Map Cushion (see image below). I love how the Old Melbourne Map Cushion features the old cable tramways and horse tramway routes.

The Old Sydney Map Cushion is also a brilliant design (please see image below), the colours are a little more vibrant but again they are not too much. This map design from 1885 will look at home in your 2012 space.

The Australia and New Zealand Pencil Case again features an old map from 1923 (please see image below). It has the illustrious title of a pencil case but really could be used for anything. A perfect little handbag tidy I think. I love how it features Australia and New Zealand on the one map and it would make a perfect gift at a very reasonable price.

The designs on the tote bags are superb! They are modern in design and a great way to show a little national pride while also being very practical. They are available in the iconic Sydney Opera House Tote design and the Melbourne Street Art Tote design. Being from Melbourne I have a special soft spot for the Melbourne Street Art tote as I am also a lover of good street art which Melbourne has a plenty!

Wowzers 2011 has flown on by and we are now knocking on the door of 2012! 2011 has been a big year for Antipodean Love with the store officially opening in November with months of planning and prep prior.

I am looking forward to 2012 and another exciting year for Antipodean Love. We are expecting a new team member in March which should keep me very busy!

We were very excited to receive our delivery of FLATOUTbears last week. My little Miss nearly 2 year old squealed with delight when I unpacked them and consequently had a toddler meltdown when she could not touch them. Note to self: Need to contain my excitement and not open such cute products in front of my little one.
