Skimming Stones Australian Porcelain Plates Collection December 03 2013
I am very excited to now have in store the stunning and vibrant wares of the very talented Skimming Stones. I loved these plates as soon as I set eyes on them and was absolutely chuffed to be approved as a stockist.
This is something a little different for Antipodean Love as though designed in Australia by Skimming Stones the plates are made in Japan by the ceramic company Kihara. The plates are made using Japanese porcelain making techniques dating back 400 years. The design was intent to explore, beyond the cliché, a fresh modern approach to Australiana and these plates definitely do that! There are six plates in the collection - Big Metal Tree, Bushman's Clock, Golden Wattle, Gumtree Hug, Precious Rain and Tramways.
I know that you are not meant to have favourites but I think the designs below are pretty special:
The plates are made of Arita porcelain in Japan and are 15cm in diameter. The plates are coloured in cobalt blue and can be used for light snacks or great for a display piece. The plate comes with a matching box with an information insert making it perfect for a special gift for somebody or a little Christmas present to yourself.
The Design Files Open House November 21 2013
I was very lucky to visit the Design Files Open House this morning The little ladies were in day care so I was foot loose and fancy free and could also relax in the knowledge that not all the amazing wares would be grabbed and molested by my little ones. I am so thankful for being kidlet free as it was busy, like crazy almost too busy but I guess that is what you get for going on opening day.
It was amazing and really quite inspirational! All the talented Australian designers that I admire so much under one roof and the sheer amount of work, planning and organisation by the amazing Lucy Feagins and her team was really quite mind boggling. I have to be honest I found it a little too overwhelmingly busy to purchase any of the amazing wares but I have definitely added some goodies to my Christmas wish list. I suppose I could also go back as it is on for the next three days from the 21st-24th of November and then they are doing it all over again in Sydney from the 5th-8th of December. Phew! I feel like I need a lie down just thinking about! You can check out all the details on the following link http://www.thedesignfilesopenhouse.com
New Kiwiana Cushions in stock now! November 19 2013
I am very pleased to add some new couch candy to the store by the very talented Tofutree Art and Design from Auckland New Zealand! Their designs are bright, vibrant and just all round freaking awesome!
The cushion covers are also at a fabulous price point ($24.95 each) and designed and printed in New Zealand so you may even want to splurge and buy a few. I think the Warrior and Kia Ora girl would look splendid paired together.
Loving these additions to the range as I hope you do as well.
100 Incredible Travel Secrets of Australia by Australian Traveller November 07 2013
Things are getting a little crazy with the count down to Christmas, we are moving soon and just general everyday life so I am dreaming of a holiday and a little chillaxing. This list by Australian Traveller has some incredible places listed, they are supposedly travel secrets in Australia but probably not so much now this list is out!
I think this would make a great list to work through, for inspiration and for planning and dreaming of an amazing holiday in Australia.
I am thinking that the image below is looking pretty freaking amazing right now! Would be even better with a G&T in hand, cheers!
Supertrooper Studio is truly Super Duper! October 29 2013
Trying saying that quickly!
I always get excited when new designs are listed on www.antipodeanlove.com.au and I am super excited to have expanded the range of amazing designs from the very talented Supertrooper Studio. The Super Places Collection is Linda's interpretation of these iconic Australian cities and they are superb!
The amazing Australian cities of Canberra, Fremantle and Manly have now been included in our prints range and really do capture these cities in all their glory. I love the timeless design and how these prints would look great in a kids room or equally great in a grown ups space. The Manly design is also available in a tea towel and cushion cover.
These would look great in your space, in a nursery or an excellent Australian souvenir and memento of your time in this amazing part of the world.
Australian and New Zealand Blog Love - Studio Home October 17 2013
I thought I would start sharing a bit of blog love here as it has been a very very long time since I have read a book (not something that I am proud of!) but I am often immersed in blogs and love them! They give me a quick read, visual feast and introduce me to amazing new people, designs and destinations.
I get excited when I discover new blogs and thought it would be great to share the love and maybe introduce you to a new read that you may have missed on in your interweb travels.
Studio Home is an awesome design blog of creative talent from Down Under. For over the last five years Julia the sassy lady behind the keyboard has been bringing readers amazing specific down under content from Australia and New Zealand. Be it new Australian and New Zealand artists, designers and entrepreneurs to iconic brands in this awesome part of the world.
Julia is based in Auckland but has strong ties to the South Island and often comes over the ditch to Australia. This is a great casual read and an awesome daily shot of Australian and New Zealand design goodness. This blog has recently undergone a little house keeping and has a great new clean look.
I hope you love Studio Home as much as I do, enjoy the read and hopefully discovering new awesome talent from down under. Like most bloggers Julia is all over social media, you can follow Studio Home obviously via the blog and on facebook, pinterest, twitter, and instagram. Enjoy!
Amazing Australian Indigenous Art goodies now in store! October 03 2013
I feel like I can now get off the naughty step as I have been pretty ashamed to admit that until now I have not had any Australian Indigenous art designs in store. This has all been resolved though with the addition of the awesome wares from Alperstein Designs!
I absolutely love how stunning and vibrant these designs are and how amazing Australian Indigenous art is featured on practical and everyday objects such as bags and ipad sleeves. Artists Ruth Napaljarri Stewart and Judy Napangardi Watson are amazingly talented and while telling their traditional stories through their amazing artwork they have created images that are truly spectacular and have made these travel bags amazing.
As a mother I know you shouldn't have favourites but I am loving the 'Kurrkara Jukurrpa' Organic Cotton Tote Bag by Judy Watson and the oh so bright and wonderful 'Green Budgerigar Dreaming' designs by Ruth Stewart especially the nifty Ruth Stewart 'Green Budgerigar Dreaming' Toiletry Bag.
Royalties from these products also directly benefit the Artists and their Community which I also love about this range
These would make an amazing Australian gift for friends or loved ones overseas. So look to sling one of these bags on your back or over your shoulder and I am sure your good self and others will admire these amazing Australian indigenous designs.
Spring brings new beginnings September 17 2013
Spring has brought lots of new beginnings in the world of Antipodean Love. There has been some serious spring cleaning on the site which has resulted in a new look and layout and this will constantly be tweaked and evolving. We are always looking at ways to mix it up and make life easier for our Antipodean Lovelies.
As a result of this housekeeping you will currently notice a significant lack of blog posts. There was an issue with the migration but I will not dwell on the past so it is onwards and upwards from here with fresh new blog content. For those new to the world of Antipodean Love please do not take this current lack of blog posts as lack of activity as truth be told it is far from it!
There will also be new amazing wares coming online soon which is very exciting.
On a personal note spring also brought about the decision for my wee family that we were ready for a change. A change of pace, lifestyle and opportunities so at the end of the year we will be leaving the big smoke for a tree change. This is something that I am very excited about, great for my family, for me and for Antipodean Love so stay tuned!
Life Instyle Melbourne August 05 2013
Hope everybody had a great weekend! I went to Life Instyle last Thursday and it really is a visually spectacular trade show. My husband also came along with me and our youngest which was a little crazy as she struggles with her hyper 16 month old self being restricted to the pram, happy days!
The setting itself starts off the magic at the Royal Exhibition Buildings in Melbourne. It is such a grand and glorious building and hard to believe that my Dad sat his high school exams in this building, I would have been quite distracted!
It is always great to see the talented designers that make some of our awesome wares and also to meet new designers that I have missed on my interweb radar. The visual merchandising is also quite spectacular and inspiring.
I have spotted some awesome new wares which will be ordered and making their way in to the store soon so stay tuned.
Antipodean Love on Instagram July 01 2013
Things have been a little quiet on the blog for a while, which is not good, not good at all! I feel a little like a swan (though nowhere near as graceful) gliding above water with my legs below going ten to the dozen underneath where nobody can see.
One thing that I do always make time for though is instagram, I love it and my husband would even beg to differ that I am obsessed. I am a visual person and just dig it, I love the glimpse it gives me in to other peoples worlds, I get a great deal of inspiration from it and my credit card also gets a beating with all the goodies I come across.
It can also unnerve me a little though, pristine houses, amazing home cooked meals and angelic kids. You can get a bit caught up in it and feel a little inadequate (well I do) but I think about my IG feed and I do not post pics of 100% reality though as to be honest that can be a little ugly at times. I am very thankful for the crop function on an app and have been known to sweep mess out of the way to take a shot.
I do not post pics everyday but I post pics that feel comfortable for me. Be it pics of my little ladies, meanders around the Melbourne CBD and goings on at Antipodean Love HQ. Out of all the social media platforms it is this one that I feel most comfortable with.
If you are on instagram I would love you to follow me, my handle is @antipodeanlove so I am easy to find!
Hope to see you on instagram soon.
